GAME NOTES: The Miami-Ohio RedHawks will look to continue their domination over the Buffalo Bulls when the two programs collide this Saturday afternoon in a Mid-American Conference bout at Yager Stadium.

This is a relatively young series, but it is also a lopsided one, as the RedHawks have won 11 of the 13 meetings with Buffalo. The Bulls did win two in a row in 2008 and 2009, but the RedHawks got back into the win column last year with a 21-9 decision.

The Bulls are coming off a heartbreaking loss to Northern Illinois. After falling behind early, the Bulls fought all the way back against NIU, and even scored at touchdown in the final seconds of regulation with a chance for overtime, but the extra point was missed, dropping Buffalo for the second straight time. It was the sixth loss overall for the Bulls, who are just 1-3 in conference action.

The RedHawks were back in the loss column after winning back-to-back games. The loss came against Toledo and dropped Miami-Ohio to 1-2 in conference action. It was the fifth loss overall for Miami-Ohio, which began the year with four straight setbacks.

The Bulls did virtually nothing through three quarters against Northern Illinois, but the offense came alive in the final frame, as the Bulls scored 20 unanswered points and should have forced overtime if not for a botched extra point.

Chazz Anderson, who has been erratic on the season, had one of his better efforts in 2011. Sure the quarterback threw two interceptions, but they can be overlooked since he finished with 404 yards and three touchdowns. Anderson definitely kept Marcus Rivers busy, as the wideout finished with 114 yards and one touchdown on 10 receptions.

Branden Oliver gave the team plenty of balance by rushing for 112 yards. Anderson helped out the cause on the ground with 56 yards and a touchdown.

Anderson led a tremendous comeback attempt, but overall on the season the quarterback has fallen short more often than not. So far the signal caller only has eight touchdowns and has tossed six interceptions. he has added four touchdowns on the ground, but the main option in that area is Oliver, who is pacing the team with 853 yards and eight scores.

The Bulls actually did a solid job controlling NIU's Chandler Harnish. The Huskies' quarterback has abused plenty of teams, but the Bulls held him to only 150 passing yards and 67 rushing yards. However, the defense could not stop the entire rushing attack of NIU, as the Huskies gashed Buffalo for 178 yards and four touchdowns.

This has been a severe problem for Buffalo all year, as the team is allowing 210.0 ypg and has already surrendered 18 rushing touchdowns. This is not the only area of concern for the coaching staff however, as the defense also lacks big play potential. Through eight games this unit has forced only seven turnovers, and pressuring the quarterback seems to be impossible for the front line, as the team comes into this weekend with only 12 sacks.

Three and a half of those sacks belong to Khalil Mack, who is also pacing the team with an impressive 14 TFLs.

The RedHawks have been all over the map offensively. One game the team is being held to 10 points or less and the next game the offense is producing close to 30 points. The later was the case this past weekend, as the RedHawks posted 28 points, but ultimately it did not matter because Toledo scored 49 in the matchup.

The majority of the success came through the air because the rushing attack finished with only 14 yards. Zac Dysert had one of his better performances, as the signal caller threw for 333 yards and two touchdowns. However, he was intercepted twice and sacked five times. Austin Boucher also saw time under center and threw a touchdown pass in the setback.

There has been a ton of pressure on the shoulders of Dysert this year since the rushing attack has been miserable. Miami-Ohio is 120th in the nation averaging just 58.8 ypg via the run and that means Dysert has to carry the offense with his arm and so far he has fallen short. The quarterback comes into this weekend with only nine touchdowns and seven interceptions, but he has completed over 60.0 percent of his passes.

Even though the offense put forth a solid showing this past weekend it really did not matter because the RedHawks, just like many other teams in the conference, had no answer for Toledo's offensive attack.

Toledo can hurt a team in a lot of different ways, and Miami found out first hand, as the RedHawks were clobbered for 497 total yards. The biggest problem came against the run, as the RedHawks were gashed for 269 yards and four scores. This has been an issue since day one for this defense, and it is unlikely to change any time soon. Through seven games the RedHawks are being punished for 191.7 ypg and have surrendered 13 rushing touchdowns.

Because of their inability to stop the run, opposing teams are averaging close to five minutes more than Miami-Ohio in time of possession.

The RedHawks have dominated the Bulls through the years, but look for Buffalo to earn a victory this Saturday. The Bulls have a solid back in Oliver, and he should be able to do enough to lead the team to victory.
