GAME NOTES: Western Michigan travels to Oxford to take on the Miami-Ohio Redhawks in a Mid-American Conference bout at Yager Stadium.

Western Michigan is coming off a 66-63 loss to Toledo in a shootout that set MAC records for most combined yards (1,439) and points (129). The loss was the third in the Broncos' last four games.

The Redhawks had their two-game winning streak snapped by the Owls of Temple in a 24-21 battle in Philadelphia last week. Miami-Ohio has gone 4-2 after a losing its first four games to start the season.

Miami-Ohio holds a 38-17-1 advantage in the all-time series between the conference rivals. Western Michigan has had recent success against the Redhawks as it has won the last two meetings. The last time these programs met was in 2009 in a game the Broncos won decisively by a score of 48-26.

Western Michigan has one of the most dangerous offenses in the country due to its nationally ranked eighth-best passing attack. The Broncos are averaging 460.9 yards of total offense and 36.1 points per game. Alex Carder is the leader of the offense with 2,822 passing yards and 22 touchdowns on the year. The junior quarterback leads the conference with 339.6 yards of total offense per game.

Carder has had the luxury of having the nation's leader in receptions and receiving yards per game in Jordan White to throw to all season. White is coming off of the best game of his career as he tallied 238 yards and three touchdowns on 16 catches. Chleb Ravenell has also been a serviceable option in the passing attack, as the senior receiver has 570 yards and six touchdowns this year.

The Broncos' main rushing option is Tevin Drake. The sophomore running back has had double digit carries in his last three games as he rushed for 220 yards and three touchdowns over that span.

Western Michigan's defense was a revolving door against Toledo as it allowed the Rockets to gain 804 yards of total offense. It was the second time this season a team amassed over 600 yards against the Broncos as Northern Illinois lit them up earlier in the season with 697 yards of total offense. The defensive unit of Western Michigan is ranked 112th in the nation as it allows 471.89 yards per game. Johnnie Simon is the leader of the defense with 90 tackles which is the third most in the conference.

The Redhawks have the second best passing offense in the MAC as they trail the Broncos. Zac Dysert is coming off his most productive game of the season as he completed 28-of-37 passes for 364 yards and three touchdowns in the loss to the Owls. The Dysert-led passing attack is ranked 20th in the nation with 280.4 yards per contest.

Miami-Ohio's rushing attack has been ineffective all season as it nets just 2.4 yards per carry. Justin Semmes has been the feature back in recent weeks and has seen moderate success. The sophomore tailback has rushed for 169 yards and a touchdown on 39 attempts in the Redhawks' last two games.

The Redhawks have a prime-time receiver of their own in Nick Harwell. Against the Owls, Harwell recorded his seventh 100-yard receiving performance as he set school single-game records for catches (15) and receiving yards (229) in the contest. The sophomore receiver is fourth in the nation in yards with 124.9 per game.

Miami-Ohio's defensive unit is much stronger than its counterpart. The Redhawks are ranked 35th in the nation in yards allowed per game and should give Carder some issues as it is ranked seventh in the nation in pass defense. Western Michigan's offensive line will have its hands full with the Redhawks' pass rush that is the second best in the conference. Only two teams have scored 30-or-more points against this defense all season. Jerrell Wedge leads the defense with 76 tackles.

Western Michigan has seen recent success moving the ball through the air, it should be interesting as the Carder-White duo clashes with one of the best passing defenses in the nation. Dysert looked very good last week and should be able to lead the Redhawks to a victory if they can limit turnovers.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Miami-Ohio 38, Western Michigan 34
