GAME NOTES: The Miners of Texas El-Paso head to Orlando to close out their regular season and try to gain bowl eligibility with a win over the Knights of UCF, in Conference USA action at Bright House Networks Stadium.

UTEP is 5-6 after losing 57-28 to the Tulsa Golden Hurricane last week. The Miners have lost three-of-four down the stretch which has put their bowl eligibility at risk.

UCF has lost its last three outings and five of its last six games, overall. Despite their 4-7 record, the Knights have been a very competitive team this year. Only one of the losses have come by more than a touchdown. All four of UCF's wins have come by 10 points or more. The Knights have been very good at home as they are 4-1 in Orlando.

This will be only the third meeting between UTEP and UCF. Each team won one game in the series. The Knights won the only meeting in Orlando 36-20 on November 24th, 2007. UTEP has never won a game in the Eastern Time Zone as they are 0-16-1 heading into the match up with the Knights.

Mike Price's offense is in the middle of the pack in the Conference USA. Recently the Miners have moved the ball with great success as they have gained 429 yards of total offense in two consecutive weeks.

The last two weeks the Miners' Carson Meger has seen the first significant action of his career at quarterback due to an injury to the regular starter Nick Lamaison. Meger did a good job managing the game against East Carolina as he completed 18-of-27 passes for 155 yards. Meger took a step backwards last week as he threw two interceptions against Tulsa. There is a chance Lamaison will return for the season finale as he is listed as questionable for the game. Lamaison has a strong arm, but is turnover prone as he has thrown an interception in every game he has seen considerable action in this season. This could be in part due to the Miner's lackadaisical pass blocking. UTEP is ranked 106th in the nation in sacks allowed per game.

The Miners' rushing attack is charged by tailback Joe Banyard. The senior rusher has proven big-game capabilities as he ran for 240 yards in the close loss to Houston and 140 yards against ECU, but those were the only two occasions in which he eclipsed the century mark.

UTEP's defense has not been sensational this season. The Miners allowed the Golden Hurricane to gain 500 yards of total offense in last week's loss. Houston's high-powered attack gained 710 yards against the Miners.

UCF is an above-average team offensively. The Knights have not been held under 300 yards of total offense once this season and are averaging 26.7 points per outing.

Recently there has been a shake up to the lineup as George O'Leary has been rotating between Jeff Godfrey and Blake Bortles at the quarterback position. Each quarterback has a lot to offer. Godfrey is on the verge of breaking Dante Culpepper's school record for rushing yards by a quarterback in just his sophomore season. Bortles has been finding holes in the defense for scores since being put in the lineup as he has thrown two touchdowns in each of his last two games. Either quarterback can be dangerous.

Latavius Murray was the feature back in last week's loss to the Pirates. Murray carried the ball a season-high 21 times for 87 yards and a touchdown. Wideout Quincy McDuffie has stood out all year as the Knights' go-to-guy. McDuffie continued his success last week with nine grabs for 93 yards. J.J Worton has been playing well on the opposite side of McDuffie with 483 receiving yards for the year.

UCF's defense is one of the best in the nation as it ranks in the top 20 and first in the conference in passing defense, rushing defense, total defense, and scoring defense. UCF has held four opponents to six points or less including two shutout performances. Kemal Ishmael has been the anchor of the defensive unit with a team-best 75 tackles.

Despite the misleading record, UCF is a solid football team. The Knights are going to try to close out their season on a positive note. Meanwhile, UTEP has a lot to play for in this one. The Miners are going to have to pull out all the stops to get by UCF and into the realm of bowl eligibility. The Miners' offense will be tested as it faces its toughest opponent of the season in an all-or-nothing matchup.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: UCF 27, Texas El-Paso 21
