GAME NOTES: The Duke Blue Devils and North Carolina Tar Heels hook up at Kenan Stadium this weekend, as they close out their respective regular-seasons in Chapel Hill, battling for the Victory Bell.

The Blue Devils had their moments this season, including a rare three-game win streak. However, that was back in late September and early October. Since then, the team has dropped six straight games and sits in the basement in the ACC's Coastal Division standings.

The Tar Heels have been a team of adversity this season, with ongoing NCAA investigations. UNC however, has taken care of business on the field for the most part, posting a 6-5 record, becoming bowl eligible in late October with against Wake Forest. More recently however, the Heels have lost two straight games, including a 24-21 setback at Virginia Tech last week.

North Carolina holds a 57-36-4 series advantage.

The Blue Devils are a one-dimensional offense, but that one dimension is pretty good, as the passing attack is averaging a robust 271.0 yards per game.

Quarterback Sean Renfree has played well, completing 65 percent of his passes, for 2,738 yards and 12 TDs. He has a pair of veteran targets to throw to in Conner Vernon and Donovan Varner, who have combined for 121 receptions, over 1,600 yards and eight TDs.

Consistency on the defensive side of the football has been an issue in Durham this season with Duke allowing 30.6 ppg and 417.9 yards of total offense. Big play ability is lacking as well, with just 10 forced turnovers and 15 sacks in the first 11 games.

Safety Matt Daniels has been the top player for Duke, pacing the team in tackles (108), with two INTs and one forced fumble. Walt Canty ranks second on the team with 80 stops, with one INT and three forced fumbles.

North Carolina features a balanced attack, with 143.8 yards coming on the ground and 242.6 through the air.

Quarterback Bryn Renner has played well this season and in some games, superb. He has completed an efficient 69.7 percent of his throws thus far, for 2,495 yards and 20 TDs. It helps to have a solid receiving duo in Dwight Jones (69 catches, 1,018 yards, eight TDs) and Erik Highsmith (41 catches, 608 yards, four TDs).

The rushing attack is spearheaded by freshman tailback Giovani Bernard, who has rumbled for 1,057 yards and 12 TDs this season.

The UNC defense has struggled against the pass this season (243.3 ypg), but has been solid against the run (111.6 ypg). There are playmakers throughout the unit, starting with linebacker Zach Brown, who has amassed a team-high 81 tackles, 10.0 TFLs, 5.5 sacks, two INTs and three forced fumbles. Defensive end Quinton Coples (45 tackles, 10.0 TFLs, 5.5 sacks) is a player that must be accounted for up front.

The Blue Devils would like to end their current skein, but getting the job done in Chapel Hill won't come easy. Behind Renner, Bernard and company are sure to get their yards.
