GAME NOTES: Fresh off their first win of the season, the Florida Atlantic Owls host the ULM Warhawks in Sun Belt Conference action in the season finale for both squads at FAU Stadium.

ULM is now 3-8 after losing to FIU 28-17 in its last outing. The Warhawks are coming off of a bye, but have lost four of their last five games.

FAU found its first win of the season last week in non-conference action as it outlasted UAB, 38-35. The Owls are still winless in the Sun Belt Conference this season. Saturday will mark the conclusion of legendary Howard Schnellenberger's 52-year coaching career. Schnellenberger announced this would be his last year before the season began.

In regard to the all-time series between the two schools on the gridiron, the Warhawks hold a commanding 5-2 edge over FAU.

The Warhawks have had no trouble finding the end zone this season and come into this matchup averaging 24.2 ppg.

The team does not have one main option in the backfield, but instead relies on a few different players to rack up 145.9 yards per game. Quarterback Kolton Browning had rumbled for 391 yards and four scores. Running back Jyruss Edwards still leads the team with 573 rushing yards despite not gaining any yards in the last outing against FIU.

Browning has also been solid while under center, throwing for 2,300 yards and 11 touchdowns against seven interceptions. Browning completed 26-of-59 passes for 246 yards in his last outing against FIU.

The last time the Warhawks were in action, they leaned heavily on Browning. Since the outcome was not what ULM hoped for, expect the Warhawks to turn to the ground game more against FAU.

Clearly the Warhawks can score, but they are under .500 because the defense has suffered through too many mistakes. The team is limiting the opposition to a conference best 102.8 rushing yards per match up , but the secondary has been dismantled to the tune of 239.5 yards per game. Opponents are averaging 27.2 points per game against the Warhawks.

Jason Edwards leads ULM's defense with 94 tackles which ranks sixth in the conference. Darius Prelow is tied for the Sun Belt's lead with four interceptions and Troy Evans has contributed five sacks.

FAU is ranked 119th in the nation in scoring average and total offense with 14.9 points and 257.9 yards per game. The Owls began their season with a nearly impossible non-conference schedule as they went on a three-game road trip to face Florida, Michigan State, and Auburn. During the trip, FAU scored 17 points total. The scoring increased slightly once the Owls hit conference play, but slumped soon after. Against the Blazers though, the Owls had their best offensive performance of the year as they gained 416 yards of total offense and scored 38 points.

Alfred Morris is a bright spot on the offense as he has rushed for 100-plus yards in six of his last seven games. The senior tailback has 1,114 rushing yards this season. Morris rushed for 1,392 yards in his sophomore season before being held under the 1000-yard mark last year. Morris is the school's all-time leader in rushing yards, total touchdowns, rushing touchdowns, and all-purpose yards.

The passing game for the Owls has not been as successful. Graham Wilbert has struggled in his first-year as a starter as he has thrown 14 interceptions and only seven touchdown passes. Wilbert has thrown seven of those interceptions in the last five games.

FAU's defense has allowed 30 points or more in all of their games with the exception of the 20-0 loss to Western Kentucky. Opponents have not had trouble moving the ball against the Owls as they have given up an average of 389.4 yards of total offense per game.

The Owls finally showed some life last week. Clearly it is too little, too late to extend the season, but FAU would like to win a conference game before it is all said and one. Wilbert will have to be effective in this one if he hopes to lead his team to a win as ULM's rushing defense should be able to keep Morris from beating them.
