Moscow, ID (Sports Network) - Matt Schilz threw for a career-high 291 yards and two touchdowns as the Bowling Green Falcons defeated the Idaho Vandals, 32-15, in non-conference action at the Kibbie Dome.

Schilz converted 19-of-31 passes for the Falcons (1-0) as they generated 478 yards of total offense in the season opener. Anthon Samuel accounted for a game-high 141 yards and a score on 22 rushing attempts, while receiver Eugene Cooper posted four catches for 110 yards and two TDs.

The Vandals (0-1) were paced by Brian Reader who hit 19-of-43 passes for 177 yards and a couple of scores, but he was picked off once and suffered four sacks in the losing cause.

The Vandals got off to a quick start, taking the opening drive of the game 78 yards on six plays, culminating with a five-yard TD pass from Reader to Mike LaGrone.

However, from there the Falcons rattled off 30 unanswered points, beginning with touchdown catches of 76 and 24 yards in the first quarter by Cooper. Just six seconds into the second quarter, Jordan Hopgood ran into the end zone from nine yards out to make the score 20-7 after a failed PAT.

Samuel added to the advantage for BGSU with a one-yard TD run at the 11:10 mark of the second frame and later in the period kicker Kyle Burkhardt knocked through a 39-yard field goal, pushing the Falcons to a 30-7 edge at the break.

Following a scoreless third quarter, Idaho finally got back on track offensively with a 25-yard scoring pass from Reader to Armauni Johnson to cut the deficit to 30-15 after a successful two-point conversion between the same two players.

Minutes later Chris Jones recorded a sack in the end zone for the visitors, boosting their lead to 32-15.

BGSU, which ranked 115th in the nation in total offense last season with just 294.4 ypg, logged 377 yards in the first half alone, the team's overall total in the meeting easily topping their best effort all of 2010 when they delivered 414 yards against Ohio University.

Idaho won the only previous meeting between the squads, capturing a thrilling 43-42 win in the 2009 Humanitarian Bowl in Boise, thanks to a successful two- point conversion with just seconds remaining in regulation.
