Kent, OH (Sports Network) - After a lengthy delay in the action due to lightning in the area, the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns held on to defeat the Kent State Golden Flashes, 20-12, in non-conference action at Dix Stadium.
Louisiana (1-1), which was crushed by Oklahoma State in the season opener (61-34), managed a mere 46 yards passing as Chris Masson and Blaine Gautier combined to convert 7-of-15 passes on the night. Running back Qyendarius Griffin carried the ball 24 times for the visitors, leading to a game-high 51 yards and a score in the contest.
The Golden Flashes (0-2) were led by Spencer Keith who hit on 15-of-33 passes for 114 yards, one touchdown and one interception in the setback.
Louisiana began the game's scoring with a 63-yard interception return for a touchdown by Lionel Stokes in the first quarter.
With under a minute to play in the opening frame, KSU responded with a six- yard TD pass from Keith to Jacquise Terry, capping a six-play, 44-yard drive to knot the score at 7-7.
In the second stanza Griffin slipped into the end zone from one yard out at the 12:56 mark and then with just 20 seconds left in the half Brett Baer knocked through a 35-yard field goal to push the Ragin Cajuns to a 17-7 halftime advantage.
Following an extended break in the action in the third due to weather concerns, KSU closed the gap to eight points thanks to a safety. Later in the period kicker Freddy Cortez converted a 44-yard field goal which made the score 17-12 in favor of Louisiana.
The only points of the fourth quarter came courtesy of the Ragin' Cajuns and Baer who knocked through a 28-yard field goal with just over six minutes to play to secure the eight-point win.
