East Hartford, CT (Sports Network) - Darius Reynolds caught two touchdown passes, including the go-ahead score in the fourth quarter, as Iowa State downed Connecticut, 24-20.
Steele Jantz went 18-for-29 with 200 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions while Josh Lenz tossed a touchdown on a trick play for the Cyclones (3-0), who have won their three games by a combined eight points.
Johnny McEntee threw for 188 yards and an interception on 13-for-30 passing for the Huskies (1-2), who have dropped their past two games after opening the season with a rout of Fordham. Isiah Moore had eight catches for 143 yards in the loss while Scott McCummings threw a touchdown pass and ran one in.
The game-winning drive covered 65 yards over eight plays with Jantz and Reynolds hooking up on a 20-yard score with a 24-20 lead with a little over nine minutes to play.
Connecticut got down to the Iowa State 38 later in the frame, but a pass on 4th-and-2 fell incomplete.
The Huskies had one final possession with 40 seconds to play and crossed midfield, but ran out of time.
The Huskies got a 10-yard rushing touchdown from McCummings on their first possession of the game and a 52-yard field goal from Dave Teggart later in the quarter for a 10-0 lead. Teggart had missed a 41-yard attempt earlier in the frame.
The first quarter saw four interceptions, including two on consecutive plays.
Iowa State got on the board in the second when James White punched the ball into the end zone from 26 yards out with a little over 11 minutes to play in the half.
The score stayed that way until the third when Iowa State used a trick play as Lenz took a pitch from White and tossed the ball to Reynolds for a 40-yard score and a 14-10 lead.
Connecticut answered with a 50-yard field goal from Teggart, but Zach Guyer hit a 36-yard field goal later in the third for a 17-13 lead.
In a drive that spanned the third and fourth quarters, the Huskies regained the lead just over two minutes into the final frame on a 39-yard score by Kashif Moore from McCummings for a 20-17 lead.
