Chestnut Hill, MA (Sports Network) - Sean Renfree threw for 359 yards and two touchdowns, and he also scored the go-ahead touchdown on a one-yard run to help lift the Duke Blue Devils to a 20-19 win over Boston College in the Atlantic Coast Conference opener for both teams at Alumni Stadium.

Renfree tied a school record with 40 completions in leading the Blue Devils to their first victory of the year. Conner Vernon caught both touchdown passes and finished with 116 yards on six catches for Duke (1-2, 1-0 ACC).

BC (0-3, 0-1) had a chance to win it late in regulation, but Nate Freese's 23- yard field goal attempt bounced off the left upright with 43 seconds remaining.

Chase Rettig opened the scoring for BC with a 31-yard touchdown pass to Tahj Kimble with just under six minutes to play in the first quarter.

After a 43-yard field goal by BC's Freese early in the second quarter, Duke trimmed the margin to 10-7 on Renfree's 53-yard scoring strike to Vernon with 8:31 remaining in the first half.

The Eagles took a 13-7 lead on another long field goal by Freese, this time from 47 yards out with 4:03 to play until halftime.

Andre Williams made it a 19-7 game with a seven-yard touchdown run at the 1:21 mark of the second quarter, although Freese missed the extra-point attempt.

The Blue Devils were able to put together a quick scoring drive just before the half, as Renfree found Vernon again for a 21-yard touchdown pass with 30 seconds on the clock, cutting the deficit to 19-14.

Duke took the lead with just under 10 minutes left in the fourth quarter, as Renfree scored on a one-yard run to cap a 14-play, 70-yard drive that took 6:34 off the clock.

The Blue Devils held a 465-328 edge in total offense for the game. Boston College was once again without star running back Montel Harris (knee) for the third straight game to start the season.
