NCAA Game Summary - Nevada at San Jose State

Final Score: Nevada 17 - San Jose St 14

San Jose, CA (Sports Network) - Mike Ball ran for 124 yards and two touchdowns as the Nevada Wolf Pack captured a 17-14 win over the San Jose State Spartans in Western Athletic Conference action at Spartan Stadium.

Ball carried the ball 29 times for the Wolf Pack (1-1, 1-0 WAC) as the team generated 261 yards on the ground overall. Quarterback Tyler Lantrip converted 11-of-21 passes for another 112 yards, but was picked off twice in the team's first victory of the season,

Brandon Rutley ran for a team-high 86 yards and a score for the Spartans (0-3, 0-1) as they again came up short. Quarterbacks Matt Faulkner and Dasmen Stewart combined to hit just 13-of-33 passes for 152 yards. With the defeat the Spartans (0-3) saw their losing streak reach 13 in a row, the longest drought among teams in the Football Bowl Subdivision.

Ball kicked off the day's scoring with a four-yard TD run late in the first quarter, capping an 11-play, 77-yard drive for the visitors.

Before the period could end the hosts responded with a touchdown of their own, a 28-yard scoring run by Stewart to lock the score at 7-7.

The only points of the second frame came courtesy of Ball who crossed the goal line from a yard out, pushing the Pack to a 14-7 advantage at the break.

Nevada added to the advantage in the third quarter with an 18-yard field goal by kicker Anthony Martinez with 4:27 remaining in the period.

Midway through the fourth quarter the Spartans cut into their deficit when Rutley made his way into the end zone from a yard away, but that's as close as SJSU would get in yet another setback for the program.

San Jose State, which last won against Southern Utah (16-11) on September 18, 2010, has now fallen in 10 consecutive conference matchups. The Spartans last recorded a win versus another member of the FBS on November 28, 2009 with a 13-10 triumph over New Mexico State.
