NCAA Game Summary - Wyoming at Bowling Green

Final Score: Wyoming 28 - Bowling Green 27

Bowling Green, OH (Sports Network) - The Wyoming Cowboys blocked what would have been a game-tying extra point with 2.7 seconds remaining, as they held on to beat Bowling Green 28-27 in a non-conference tilt at Perry Stadium.

Brett Smith completed 23-of-35 passes for 248 yards and a touchdown for the Cowboys (3-0), who have already matched their win total from last season.

Bowling Green (2-1) committed six turnovers for the game and had several costly penalties. The Falcons also had a field-goal attempt blocked in the third quarter. Matt Schilz threw for 437 yards and four touchdowns in the loss. Two of those TD passes went to Kamar Jorden, who finished with 101 yards on nine catches.

Bowling Green marched right down the field on its opening drive, as Schilz found Alex Bayer for a 40-yard scoring strike to stake the Falcons an early 7-0 lead.

Wyoming tied the score at the 12:15 mark of the second quarter, when Alvester Alexander broke loose for a 17-yard touchdown scamper.

The Falcons reclaimed the lead with five minutes to play until halftime, as Schilz hooked up with Jorden for a 13-yard touchdown pass.

Wyoming opened the second half with a nine-play scoring drive, capped by Ghaali Muhammad's six-yard touchdown run.

The Cowboys took their first lead of the game at the 5:42 mark of the third quarter, as Marqueston Huff recovered a fumble at the Bowling Green eight-yard line and took it into the end zone.

Wyoming stretched its lead to 28-14 on Smith's 10-yard touchdown pass to Dominic Rufran with 13:20 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Bowling Green trimmed the margin to 28-21 with 4:16 to play in regulation, as Schilz connected with Jorden for another scoring strike, this time from 32 yards.

The Falcons were not done there, as they put together a 10-play, 89-yard drive that took only 1:15. Ray Hutson scored on a 10-yard pass from Schilz with three seconds on the clock, but Wyoming's Gabe Knapton came through with the game-saving blocked kick on the extra-point attempt.

Bowling Green held a 514-396 edge in total offense for the game. However, turnovers, penalties, and ultimately, blocked kicks, proved costly.
