NCAA Game Summary - Bowling Green at Miami-Ohio

Final Score: Bowling Green 37 - Miami-Ohio 23

Oxford, OH (Sports Network) - Matt Schilz threw three touchdown passes and Anthon Samuel added the longest touchdown run in school history to help Bowling Green defeat Miami-Ohio 37-23 in the MAC opener for both teams.

Samuel finished with 121 yards on 16 carries - but most of the total resulted from his 96-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter that broke the school record and broke the game open for Bowling Green (3-1, 1-0 MAC). It was the third 100-yard rushing game for Samuel this season.

Schilz completed 19-of-24 passes for 183 yards and one interception.

Miami-Ohio (0-3, 0-1 MAC) was led offensively by quarterback Zac Dysert, who finished 25-of-40 with two interceptions, but added a rushing touchdown. Receiver Nick Harwell registered his second consecutive 100-yard receiving game, finishing with eight catches for 139 yards.

After Miami-Ohio fumbled deep inside its own territory, Bowling Green struck the scoreboard first when Jordan Hopgood ran for a two yard touchdown with 3:15 left in the first quarter.

Miami-Ohio responded early in the second quarter, when Wes Williams intercepted a Schilz pass and returned it six yards for a touchdown. Schilz countered by driving Bowling Green 62 yards in eight plays, finding Alex Bayer on a four yard touchdown pass to push the Falcon's lead to 13-7.

After Erik Finklea's one yard touchdown dive gave Miami-Ohio the lead with 6:06 remaining in the half, Bowling Green reclaimed the lead with a one yard touchdown pass from Schilz to Kendall Montgomery.

Miami-Ohio kicker Mason Krysinski hit a 45-yard field goal as time expired in the first half, and the RedHawks trailed 20-17 lead heading into recess.

Schilz engineered a 16 play, 89 yard drive capped by a seven yard touchdown pass to Kamar Jorden with 3:23 left in the third quarter, and Bowling Green went up 30-17 following Stephen Stein's 35 yard field goal early in the fourth quarter.

Dysert pulled Miami-Ohio within seven on the next drive, scoring on a one-yard run. Less than a minute later, the Falcons received the biggest play of the game after Samuel busted through the line and scored the 96-yard touchdown, pushing the lead to 37-23. The previous longest run in Bowling Green history was by Mike McGee, who ripped off a 93-yarder against Central Michigan in 1987.
