Final Score: Central Mich 7 - Michigan State 45
East Lansing, MI (Sports Network) - Le'Veon Bell rushed for three touchdowns to lead the Michigan State Spartans to a 45-7 rout over Central Michigan in non-league play at Spartan Stadium.
Bell finished with 81 yards on only eight carries for the Spartans (3-1), who rebounded in a big way from last week's ugly loss against Notre Dame, which dropped them out of the national rankings. Kirk Cousins threw for 213 yards and a touchdown before exiting midway through the third quarter.
Ryan Radcliff had a tough day under center for Central Michigan, as he completed only 11-of-29 passes for 87 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. The Chippewas (1-3) wrapped up a three-game road swing with their third consecutive loss.
Michigan State marched right down the field on its opening possession, and Bell scored on a one-yard run to give the Spartans an early 7-0 lead.
Bell added another rushing touchdown at the 10:05 mark of the second quarter, this time from five yards out to make it a 14-0 game. The Spartans were not done there, as they would add three more second-quarter scores to build a comfortable halftime lead.
Isaiah Lewis extended the lead to 21-0 midway through the second quarter on a 37-yard interception return for a touchdown.
Dan Conroy pushed the margin to 24-0 on a 23-yard field goal at the five- minute mark, and later in the same frame Bell scored his third rushing touchdown of the game on a 13-yard run for a 31-0 Spartans lead entering the locker room at halftime.
CMU finally got on the board at the 10:11 mark of the third quarter, as Radcliff found David Blackburn for a five-yard touchdown pass. However, the Chippewas would draw no closer.
A 15-yard touchdown pass Cousins to Larry Caper made it a 38-7 game with 6:45 to play in the third quarter. The Spartans tacked on another touchdown in the fourth quarter on a three-yard pass from backup quarterback Andrew Maxwell to Dion Sims.
MSU out-gained the Chippewas, 481-112 in total offense for the game. The Spartans gained 23 first downs to only eight for CMU.
