Final Score: Louisiana Tech 20 - Miss State 26

Starkville, MS (Sports Network) - A 17-yard touchdown pass from Chris Relf to LaDarius Perkins in overtime proved to be the difference as the Mississippi State Bulldogs slipped by the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs, 26-20, in non- conference action at Davis Wade Stadium.

Relf finished the night 14-of-29 for 164 yards for MSU (2-2), spreading the ball to eight different receivers. Vick Ballard contributed with a team-best 68 yards and a score on 17 rushing attempts.

LaTech (1-3) was paced by Nick Isham who converted 29-of-40 passes for 233 yards and a score, but he was sacked four times and threw a pair of interceptions in the losing effort.

MSU scored the first points of the night when Chad Bumphis returned a punt 82 yards for a touchdown at the 9:20 mark of the first quarter.

Tech responded with a 43-yard field goal by Matt Nelson and followed that up with a four-yard rushing score by Lennon Creer to make the score 10-7 in favor of the visitors. Creer finished the evening with a game-high 82 yards on 24 attempts.

In the second frame MSU tallied 10 points, beginning with an 11-yard rushing score by Ballard, followed by a 36-yard field goal from Derek DePasquale to give the home team a 17-10 edge at the break.

At the 8:25 mark of the third quarter Isham hooked up with Quinton Patton on a 14-yard TD strike, locking the score at 17-17.

The teams then traded field goals, DePasquale making good on a 24-yard effort in the third quarter and Nelson hitting a 28-yard kick with 8:42 to play in regulation to make the score 20-20 and eventually send the meeting into overtime.

In the extra session LaTech was given first crack, but following a five-yard gain on the first play Isham was intercepted by Nickoe Whitley, allowing the hometown Bulldogs to take their time and set up for the game-winning score.

Mississippi State managed to pick up the victory despite converting just 3- of-16 on third down.
