Ypsilanti, MI (Sports Network) - Dominique White ran for 164 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Eastern Michigan Eagles to a 31-23 win over the Akron Zips in Mid-American Conference action at Rynearson Stadium.

White carried the ball 28 times for the Eagles (3-2, 1-0 MAC), while quarterback Alex Gillett contributed another 62 yards and a score on 18 carries. The signal-caller completed just 4-of-9 passes for 94 yards and was sacked twice as the squad snapped a two-game slide.

The Zips (1-4, 0-2), still awaiting their first win of 2011 over another school from the Football Bowl Subdivision, were led by Jawon Chisholm with 122 yards and a score on 25 rushing attempts, the running back also tossing a touchdown pass to quarterback Clayton Moore, the signal-caller accounting for 14-of-28 for 155 yards and a TD passing of his own along the way.

Eastern Michigan moved out to a 14-0 lead in the second quarter thanks to a 14-yard TD run by White in the first frame and a one-yard scoring run by the back early in the second.

The Zips responded with two scores of their own as Moore connected with Keith Sconiers on a 36-yard scoring strike at the 5:24 mark of the second quarter and kicker T.J. Marchese knocked through a 29-yard field goal to make the score 14-10.

With time winding down in the first half, the Eagles finished off a quick, 10- play, 64-yard drive with a 26-yard field goal by Kody Fulkerson, giving the home team a 17-10 edge at the break.

White scored his third touchdown of the afternoon on a two-yard effort early in the third quarter to push the lead to 24-10.

Chisholm and Moore connected with each other with just over three minutes remaining in the period on an eight-yard TD pass play, but a failed PAT left the visitors with an eight-point deficit.

Barely two minutes into the final period, Gillett made his way into the end zone on a four-yard run for the Eagles, giving them a 31-16 advantage before Chisholm's one-yard scoring run later in the contest left the hosts with the 31-23 triumph.

EMU, which converted just 5-of-15 on third-down in the meeting, entered the weekend ranked 117th in the nation in passing with just 101.8 ypg.
