Charlottesville, VA (Sports Network) - The Idaho Vandals went for the win in overtime, but a failed two-point conversion attempt resulted in a 21-20 win for the Virginia Cavaliers in Charlottesville.

Virginia dominated in terms of offensive production, outgaining the visiting Vandals, 496-296 yards. The Cavaliers also had a significant advantage in terms of time of possession, 34:09-to-25:51.

The hometown Cavaliers found the end zone twice in the first quarter, as tailback Perry Jones scored on a 10-yard run at the 6:48 mark and than again on a 6-yard TD pass from Michael Rocco with 2:38 remaining in the quarter.

Jones finished the afternoon with 110 yards on 21 carries, adding seven receptions for another 41 yards. Virginia quarterbacks Michael Rocco and David Watford finished with 335 yards passing. Wide receiver Kris Burd led all receivers with eight catches, for 123 yards.

Idaho's Brian Reader struggled, completing a mere 17-of-41 passes, for 193 yards, with one TD and two INTs.

The Vandals were finally able to get on the scoreboard at the 8:20 mark of the second quarter, as a nine-play, 55-yard drive was capped off by a 19-yard field goal by Trey Farquhar. Idaho finished the scoring in the first half, with another Farquhar field goal, a 42-yarder, giving Virginia a 14-6 advantage at the intermission.

Idaho's Daniel Micheletti ran in a blocked punt for a touchdown and Reader completed a two-point conversion with a pass to Marsel Posey to tie the game 14-14 late to force overtime.

Virginia started the overtime session and scored a touchdown on a 27-yard pass from Watford to Dominique Terrell.

Reader countered with a 23-yard TD strike to Armauni Johnson, but failed to convert a two-point conversion, as the underdog Vandals went for the win instead of the tie.
