Final Score: Toledo 36 - Temple 13
Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Morgan Williams ran for 121 yards and a touchdown, as the Toledo Rockets thumped Temple, 36-13 in a Mid-American Conference showdown at Lincoln Financial Field.
Austin Dantin completed an efficient 12-of-14 passes for 115 yards and a score, helping the Rockets (2-3, 1-0 MAC) snap a three-game slide with a big road win.
The Owls (3-2, 1-1) were not able to overcome four turnovers. Chester Stewart threw two interceptions and finished with just 173 yards on 10-of-20 passing. Star running back Bernard Pierce was limited to only 75 rushing yards on 24 carries and he also lost a key fumble in the third quarter.
Brandon McManus got Temple on the board first with a 30-yard field goal at the 9:09 mark of the opening quarter.
Toledo answered with a one-yard touchdown plunge by Dantin at the 5:58 mark of the first quarter, which was set up by a muffed punt by Temple's Mack Brown at the Owls' 10-yard line. Eric Page ran it in for the two-point conversion to make it an 8-3 game.
Later in the opening frame, Williams found pay dirt on a 32-yard run to push the Rockets' lead to 15-3.
Temple battled back in the second quarter, as Stewart found Evan Rodriguez for a 55-yard scoring strike to cut the deficit to 15-10 with 14:49 remaining until halftime.
Midway through the second quarter, McManus trimmed the margin to 15-13 with a 37-yard field goal.
Seconds later, Toledo responded with some trickery. From the Wildcat formation, wideout Eric Page fooled the defense with a throwback to quarterback Dwight Macon for a 33-yard touchdown.
The Rockets extended their lead to 29-13 on Dantin's 20-yard touchdown pass to David Fluellen with 10:34 to play in the third quarter. Later in the same quarter, Pierce lost a fumble at the end of a dazzling 33-yard catch and run, thwarting any momentum for the Owls.
Toledo capped the scoring with a one-yard touchdown run by Fluellen in the fourth quarter.
Temple had a 318-305 edge in total offense for the game, but four turnovers proved costly for the Owls.
