NCAA Game Summary - Western Kentucky at Middle Tennessee

Final Score: Western Ky 36 - Middle Tennessee 33

Murfreesboro, TN (Sports Network) - Bobby Rainey's seven-yard touchdown catch in the second overtime capped a huge night for the running back as Western Kentucky took a 36-33 win over Middle Tennessee.

After Alan Gendreau hit a 23-yard field goal to give the Blue Raiders a 33-30 lead, the Hilltoppers faced a 3rd-and-10, but Rainey's 11-yard run moved the chains and two plays later he caught a pass out to the left and broke a tackle on his way to the end zone.

Rainey had 196 yards on 37 carries with a touchdown and added six catches for 57 yards along with the score for the Hilltoppers (1-4, 1-1 Sun Belt), who got two touchdowns runs from Kadeem Jones. Kawaun Jakes completed 17-of-34 passes for 222 yards and a touchdown.

Logan Kilgore went 23-for-47 with 282 yards, two touchdowns and one interception along with a rushing touchdown for the Blue Raiders (1-4, 0-2), who were coming off their first win of the season, a 38-31 win against Memphis last Saturday. William Pratcher had 16 carries for 106 yards while D.D. Kyles added 96 yards and a score on 19 carries.

The teams exchanged rushing touchdowns in the first quarter after a two-yard run from Kilgore halfway through gave the Blue Raiders the lead while Jones countered with a one-yard run late in the quarter to tie the game for the Hilltoppers.

The score remained that way until the third when Kyles took a handoff up the middle and rumbled into the end zone on a 25-yard score to give the Blue Raiders a 13-7 lead after the extra point was blocked.

On Western Kentucky's ensuing drive, a rollout play to the right saw Jakes throw to a wide open Joel German in the end zone, but the easy score was dropped by German.

The Hilltoppers, though, did get a safety later in the third when Pratcher was tackled in the end zone

After an exchange of punts, Western Kentucky took a 16-13 lead on a 10-yard touchdown run from Rainey with under a minute to play in the third quarter.

The Blue Raiders tied the game with 9:10 to play in the fourth on a 22-yard field goal from Gendreau following an incompletion on 3rd-and-4.

John Evans returned the ensuing kickoff 90 yards for a score and a 23-16 lead for Western Kentucky, but the Blue Raiders responded with an eight-yard score from Kilgore to Anthony Amos to tie the game.

Western Kentucky got the ball down to the Middle Tennessee 17 on the final drive of the fourth, but a holding call and false start pushed the ball back and Casey Tinius, who missed two field goals earlier, had a 46-yard attempt blocked to force overtime.

Jones scored on a one-yard run on Western Kentucky's first overtime possession while Kilgore hit Sancho McDonald for a 25-yard score on Middle Tennessee's first play of its overtime touch.
