Final Score: San Diego St 41 - Air Force 27
Colorado Springs, CO (Sports Network) - Ronnie Hillman rushed for 172 yards and two touchdowns as the San Diego State Aztecs took a 41-27 victory over the Air Force Falcons.
Ryan Lindley completed 15-of-21 pass attempts for 209 yards and two scores as the Aztecs (4-2, 1-1 MWC) halted a two-game skid.
Tim Jefferson threw for 224 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions on 22-of-36 passing for Air Force (3-3, 0-2).
Jonathan Warzeka caught seven passes for 96 yards and two scores for the Falcons, who have lost two straight.
San Diego State opened the game with a 12-play drive that went down to the Air Force nine-yard line, but the Aztecs couldn't find a way into the end zone and had to settle for a 27-yard field goal by Abelardo Perez.
The Falcons answered with their own 12-play scoring drive capped by a 26-yard touchdown grab by Warzeka. After converting on a 4th-and-1 at the Aztecs' 45 with an Asher Clark six-yard run, it took Air Force just four plays to take a 7-3 lead.
The Aztecs took the lead right back with a 27-yard touchdown pass from Lindley to Alston Umuolo early in the second quarter. Hillman accounted for 24 total yards on the 79-yard scoring drive.
After trading punts, Air Force's offense took over at its own 38. Mikel Hunter's 29-yard rush put the ball in the red zone and David Baska later rumbled in for the score to give the Falcons a 14-10 advantage.
But Brandon Davis took the ensuing kickoff 98 yards down the field and into the end zone to quickly give the Aztecs their three-point lead back.
Parker Herrington's 44-yard field goal as time expired in the half made it a 17-17 game at the break.
After a defensive holding penalty on a 3rd-and-14 extended Air Force's opening drive of the second half, Hunter broke a 33-yard rush to set up a Herrington 31-yard field goal, putting the Falcons on top.
San Diego State was then forced to punt, but Rene Siluano intercepted a Jefferson pass deep inside Aztecs territory and returned it to the San Diego State 39-yard line. Lindley found Dylan Denso for a 33-yard gain on the first play of the possession and Perez later connected on a 25-yarder to knot the game at 20 late in the third quarter.
The tie was quickly broken as Mike DeWitt lost a fumble on Air Force's first play of its next drive and Colin Lockett pulled in a 28-yard TD reception on the very next play for a 27-20 lead.
The Aztecs extended their lead in the fourth quarter with scoring rushes of 22 and 57 yards by Hillman to put the game away.
Warzeka pulled down a 18-yard TD pass with 5:56 to go in the game to finalize the scoring.
