NCAA Game Summary - Utah State at Fresno State

Final Score: Utah State 21 - Fresno State 31

Fresno, CA (Sports Network) - Derek Carr threw for 248 yards and a pair of touchdowns as the Fresno State Bulldogs secured a 31-21 win over the Utah State Aggies in Western Athletic Conference action at Bulldog Stadium.

Carr completed 23-of-39 passes as the Bulldogs (3-4, 2-0 WAC) bounced back from an ugly 57-7 loss to former WAC member Boise State last week and won for the first time in three games. Running back Robbie Rouse registered his fifth 100-yard rushing effort in the last six games as he finished with 140 yards and a score for the hosts.

The Aggies (2-4, 0-1) were paced by Robert Turbin who gained a game-high 155 yards and scored one TD on 16 rushing attempts in the team's third loss in the last four outings. Chuckie Keeton connected on 15-of-31 passes for 194 yards and a score, but was sacked three times along the way.

USU took the opening drive 87 yards in seven plays and capped it off with a 47-yard touchdown pass from Keeton to Michael Smith. The Aggies extended their lead to 14-0 at the 6:10 mark of the opening period thanks to a 59-yard TD run by Turbin.

On the ensuing possession the Bulldogs put their first points of the night on the board, thanks to a 23-yard TD pass from Carr to Isaiah Burse. Less than three minutes into the second half FSU tied the game at 14-14 on a one-yard TD run by Carr.

On the very next possession for the Aggies, a short field allowed the team to run just two plays and get into the end zone when Smith streaked 46 yards over the goal line to give the visitors a 21-14 edge at the break.

The Bulldogs took control in the second half as kicker Kevin Goessling booted a 39-yard field goal to draw within four points in the third quarter.

Carr led an 80-yard drive to open the fourth quarter, needing just over three minutes to get the hosts into the end zone once again, thanks to a 23-yard pass to Jalen Saunders. Rouse capped off the night with a nine-yard scoring run at the 8:05 mark to give the home team the double-digit victory.

With his field goal in the third quarter, Goessling moved into second place on Fresno State's all-time scoring list with 335 points.

Utah State, which has not won in Fresno since 1980, has not won back-to-back games since defeating New Mexico State (27-22) and San Jose State (38-34) last November.
