DeKalb, IL (Sports Network) - Chandler Harnish ran for 229 yards on 14 carries to lead the Northern Illinois Huskies to a 51-22 rout of the Western Michigan Broncos in a Mid-American Conference bout at Huskie Stadium.
Harnish also paced the Huskies (4-3, 2-1 MAC) under center, completing 14- of-27 pass attempts for 203 yards. Jordan Lynch added 113 yards on the ground with a score for the Huskies, while Jasmin Hopkins rushed for 91 yards and three touchdowns. Nathan Palmer grabbed seven passes for 89 yards as well for NIU.
Alex Carder completed 25-of-43 passes for 194 yards, with one touchdown and one interception, to lead Western Michigan (4-3, 2-1) in the loss, while Jordan White hauled in 12 catches for 98 yards for the Broncos.
The Broncos capped an 11-play, 52-yard opening drive with a 45-yard field goal by John Potter to earn a 3-0 lead.
Potter added a 30-yard conversion late in the stanza to give the Broncos a 6-0 advantage.
The Huskies got on the board early in the second quarter following a 13-yard run from Hopkins.
The Broncos took an 8-7 lead after tackling Ryan Neir in the end zone for a safety.
Midway through the frame, the Broncos extended their lead to 15-7 after a 16- yard strike from Carder to Chleb Ravenell.
The Huskies pulled to within 15-10 late in the stanza with a 30-yard Mathew Sims field goal, while a 36-yard kick from Sims as time expired in the half made it a 15-13 game heading into the break.
The third quarter, however, was all Northern Illinois, as the Huskies rattled off 24 unanswered points en route to a 37-15 advantage.
The Huskies opened the scoring with a two-yard Daniels plunge early in the frame, followed by a 25-yard Sims field goal just minutes later.
The Huskies then found the end zone late in the stanza following an eight-yard Daniels run, and capped off the scoring run with a one-yard plunge from Hopkins just two minutes later.
Hopkins extended the NIU lead early in the final period of play with a one- yard run, while a 66-yard scamper from Lynch just minutes later gave the Huskies a 51-15 lead.
The Broncos added a two-yard toss from Tyler VanTubbergen to Antoin Scriven late in the frame to account for the final score of the meeting.
