El Paso, TX (Sports Network) - Vernon Frazier ran for 167 yards and two touchdowns to help UTEP to a 31-17 win over Colorado State in non-conference action at the Sun Bowl.

Leilyon Myers added 81 yards on 15 carries for UTEP (4-3), and quarterback Nick Lamaison threw for 116 yards and a touchdown.

Chris Nwoke rushed for 93 yards and a touchdown to lead Colorado State (3-4), which managed just 255 yards of total offense and finished four-of-16 on third down. Quarterback Pete Thomas finished 19-of-33 for 162 yards, with no touchdowns and one interception. Thomas was sacked seven times.

UTEP shot out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter. It took the Miners just three plays and 1:19 to get on the scoreboard, as Lamaison hit Nathan Jeffrey with a 36-yard touchdown pass to give UTEP a 7-0 lead.

The Miners got another big play with just 55 seconds remaining in the quarter, as Frazier rushed for a 48-yard touchdown to spot the Miners a 14-0 lead. The 80-yard drive was another quick one, spanning just four plays and 1:39.

After Colorado State's Chad VanderMolen hit a 22-yard field goal to make it 14-3 early in the second quarter, Momo Thomas intercepted a Lamaison pass and returned it 45 yards for a touchdown on the next possession.

UTEP extended its lead to 17-10 on a Dakota Warren 36-yard field goal with 3:21 left before halftime.

Frazier scored for the second time in the game late in the third quarter, breaking free for a 83-yard touchdown that gave UTEP a 24-10 advantage.

Lamaison scored on a 33-yard touchdown run that gave UTEP a 31-10 early in the fourth quarter. Lamaison finished with 47 yards rushing.

The Rams pulled within two touchdowns after Nwoke rushed for a 24-yard score with 7:29 remaining, but UTEP forced the Colorado State offense to turn the ball over on downs on its final possession of the game.
