NCAA Game Summary - Western Kentucky at U-L-M

Final Score: Western Ky 31 - ULM 28

Monroe, LA (Sports Network) - A 24-yard field goal in the first overtime by Jesse Roy provided the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers with their fourth straight win as they logged a thrilling 31-28 victory against the Warhawks in Sun Belt Conference action at Malone Stadium.

The Hilltoppers (4-4, 4-1 SBC), enjoying their first four-game win streak since 2005, were led by Kawaun Jakes who converted 13-of-22 passes for 155 yards and a couple of touchdowns, while also being picked off once and suffering three sacks in the outing. Running back Bobby Rainey posted a game- high 104 yards and a score on 30 rushing attempts.

The Warhawks (2-6, 1-3), losers of two straight and five of their last six outings, were led by Kolton Browning who hit on 25-of-59 passes for 365 yards and two TDs, but he tossed one INT and was sacked a staggering six times. Colby Harper produced eight catches for 110 yards and a touchdown in the setback as well.

Following a scoreless first quarter, ULM's Mitchell Bailey put the home team on the board with a five-yard TD run, but after that the Hilltoppers rattled off 20 straight points.

Jakes hit Mitchell Henry with a 13-yard TD pass at the 8:48 mark of the second frame and then Kadeem Jones landed in the end zone on a one-yard run, but a blocked PAT after the first TD left the Hilltoppers with a 13-7 lead at the break.

The only points of the third quarter came courtesy of Rainey who reeled in a 15-yard TD pass from Jakes, leading the team to a 20-7 advantage.

ULM then assumed the lead late in the fourth quarter as the team picked up a 22-yard TD pass catch from Harper and a six-yard TD run by Browning with just one minute remaining in regulation.

With a short field, thanks to a 79-yard kickoff return by John Evans, WKU moved out to a 28-21 advantage on a four-yard TD run by Rainey and a successful two-point pass play between Jakes and Boe Brand with a mere 38 seconds to play.

However, Browning and the Warhawks moved the ball 77 yards on just three plays, over 32 seconds, capped by a seven-yard TD pass to Anthony McCall to knot the score at 28-28 and send it into overtime.

The Warhawks had the first possession in overtime, but Derrius Brooks made a huge interception in the end zone to halt any chance of ULM capturing the victory.
