Final Score: Arizona 29 - Colorado 48
Boulder, CO (Sports Network) - Tailback Rodney Stewart erupted for 181 yards rushing and three touchdowns, leading the Colorado Buffaloes to a 48-29 win over Arizona in conference play at Folsom Field on a windy afternoon, ending a seven-game losing streak, and earning the Buffs their first Pac-12 victory.
Stewart recorded his 16th 100-yard rushing game in his career and second this season for Colorado (2-9, 1-6 Pac-12), while accounting for a touchdown pass as well. Wideout Toney Clemons had a strong outing as well, racking up 115 yards and one TD on five receptions. Quarterback Tyler Hansen was 16-of-26 passing, for 213 yards and two TDs. He also caught a TD pass and rushed 10 times for 50 yards, as CU racked up 500 yards of total offense, including 273 on the ground.
Arizona (2-8, 1-7) once again relied on its passing attack, as quarterback Nick Foles completed 35-of-53 passes, for 352 yards and one TD. He was however, intercepted three times and sacked twice in the loss. The Wildcats put up 412 yards of total offense, but were done in by four turnovers. Wideout Gino Crump led the Wildcats with 10 catches, for 95 yards. The Arizona rushing attack amassed a mere 60 yards in the game, but Ka'Deem Carey did score twice on the ground in the loss.
Stewart scored the first of his three rushing TDs at the 10:56 mark of the first quarter, giving the Buffs a quick 7-0 lead. Arizona cut the lead to 7-3 six and a half minutes later with a 25-yard field goal by John Bonano.
Colorado made it 13-3 early in the second quarter with a five-yard TD pass from Hansen to Tony Jones, but the extra point attempt failed. Carey's one- yard TD run after that made it 13-10 in favor of the hometown Buffs, who took a 20-10 lead into halftime with a 17-yard scoring run by Josh Ford with just over two minutes to go in the half.
The Buffs opened up a 34-10 lead in the third quarter thanks to a 15-yard TD pass from Hansen to Toney Clemons, followed by a 14-yard TD reception by Hansen from Stewart.
The Wildcats were able to close the quarter with a score, as Tra'Mayne Bondurant intercepted Hansen and returned it 29 yards for a score to cut Colorado's lead to 34-17 heading into the final frame.
The two teams alternated touchdown drives over the final 15 minutes, with Arizona scoring on an 11-yard TD pass from Foles to David Douglas and a two- yard TD run by Carey. Colorado countered with a pair of Stewart TD runs of 11 and nine yards, respectively.
With the 48-28 victory, Colorado avoided its first winless season at Folsom Field, which opened in 1924.
