Bowling Green, OH (Sports Network) - Matt Weller kicked a 23-yard field goal on the final play of the game, giving the Ohio University Bobcats a 29-28 win over the Bowling Green Falcons in Mid-American Conference action at Doyt Perry Stadium.
It was Weller's school-record fifth field goal of the game and gave the Bobcats (8-3, 5-2 MAC) not only the victory but the conference's East Division title in the wake of Miami's 24-21 loss to Western Michigan. The Bobcats, who have won four straight, are assured of a slot in the conference championship game December 2nd at Ford Field in Detroit.
Tyler Tettleton accounted for 322 yards in total offense for the Bobcats (8-3, 5-2 MAC), throwing for 194 yards and a touchdown and rushing for a career-high 128 yards and a score.
Matt Schilz was 23-of-34 through the air for the Falcons (4-7, 2-5) for 232 yards and three touchdowns. Kamar Jorden caught eight balls for 87 yards and a touchdown. Anthon Samuel picked up 67 yards on the ground and scored a touchdown.
Bowling Green opened the scoring at the 11:23 mark of the first quarter when Schilz found Tyler Beck with a five-yard scoring pass.
Ohio picked up its first points when Weller booted a 31-yard field goal at the 2:43 mark of the first quarter.
The Bobcats took a 10-7 second quarter lead when Tettleton hit LaVon Brazill with a 24-yard touchdown pass with 11:51 left in the half.
The Falcons moved back in front when Schilz hit Jorden on a six-yard scoring connection with 7:50 still left in the half.
Weller added a 39-yard field goal with 1:27 remaining that cut the Bowling Green lead to 14-13. Ohio regained the lead at 16-14 on Weller's third field goal, a 24-yard effort on the final play of the first half.
He added a 49-yard boot, the longest of his career, with 11:18 left in the third quarter to give the Bobcats a 19-14 lead.
Samuel put the Falcons back in front at 21-19 with a three-yard burst with 7:38 remaining in the third quarter.
Schilz then hit Eugene Cooper with a three-yard scoring pass with 13:41 left in regulation to increase the Falcon lead to 28-19.
Tettleton sparked his team's comeback when he scored on a four-yard burst with 11:44 remaining to cut the deficit to two at 28-26.
The winning drive consumed the final 7:34 of regulation, with Weller providing the late game heroics with his fifth field goal of the game.
