Final Score: Western Mich 24 - Miami-Ohio 21
Oxford, OH (Sports Network) - Quarterback Alex Carder threw for 429 yards and three touchdowns, leading the Western Michigan Broncos to a 24-21 win over Miami-Ohio in Mid-American Conference action at Yager Stadium.
Carder completed 36-of-57 passes for Western Michigan (6-5, 4-3 MAC), which became bowl eligible with the win. Jordan White was a big part of Carder's night, as he caught nine balls, for 106 yards and two TDs. Chleb Ravenell also went over 100 yards receiving for WMU, with eight catches, for 110 yards.
Zac Dysert matched Carder's production for Miami-Ohio (4-7, 3-4), as he completed 42-of-54 passes, for 413 yards and three TDs. Dysert's 42 completions set a new school record eclipsing Ben Roethlisberger's 40 against Hawaii in 2001. Both Chris Givens and Nick Harwell eclipsed 100 yards receiving in the game. Givens finished with 13 catches, for 141 yards, while Harwell caught 14 balls, for 138 yards and all three TDs. With his performance, Harwell set a school record with his eighth 100-yard receiving game of the season.
Following a scoreless first quarter it was the hometown RedHawks that got on the scoreboard first, as Dysert found Harwell for a two-yard TD pass, capping off a six-play, 84-yard drive.
The Broncos tied things up just four minutes later, as Carder threw a 19-yard TD pass to White.
Miami-Ohio came right back with another Dysert-to-Harwell touchdown pass, this one from 11 yards out to put the RedHawks up 14-7.
Western Michigan cut the lead to 14-10 at the half, as John Potter kicked a 35-yard field goal as time expired.
The Broncos controlled much of the second half, as Carder connected with White on a six-yard touchdown the third quarter and then a two-yard TD pass to Robert Arnheim early in the fourth quarter to put Western Michigan up 24-14.
Dysert and Harwell hooked up once again with three minutes left in the game, this time from 24 yards out to cut Western Michigan's lead to 24-14.
The Broncos got the ball back and chewed up the remaining three minutes on the clock to preserve the victory.
