Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Bernard Pierce rushed for 157 yards and scored three touchdowns as the Temple Owls routed the Army Black Knights 42-14 in a non-conference game at Lincoln Financial Field.

Pierce, who has battled injuries this season, carried 21 times, while Matt Brown ran for 133 yards and two scores on just eight carries for the Owls (7-4) who have won two straight. Chris Coyer was 4-of-5 through the air for 79 yards and a score.

Raymond Maples rushed for 93 yards for Army (3-8), which is now 0-6 on the road this season. He returned to the lineup after missing last week's game against Rutgers. Max Jenkins was just 1-of-8 through the air for 21 yards with an interception. Regular quarterback Trent Steelman, who had missed three games with a sprained ankle, returned to action, carrying twice for seven yards. The Black Knights, who led the nation in rushing coming in, picked up 340 net yards on the ground

Brown got Temple on the scoreboard with a 22-yard run three minutes into the first quarter.

Pierce extended the Owls' lead to 14-0 on an 11-yard run ruin with half a minute remaining in the period.

He scored his second touchdown of the game from a yard out with four-and-a- half minutes left until halftime and Chris Coyer extended the hosts' lead when he hit Joe Jones with a 36-yard scoring pass with just over a minute left.

Army finally got on the scoreboard with three minutes left in the third quarter when Max Jenkins scored from a yard out.

Brown's 52-yard dash gave Temple a 35-7 lead four-and-a-half minutes into the fourth quarter before Larry Dixon added a 15-yard run for the Black Knights to make it a 35-14 game with exactly seven-and-a-half minutes left.

Pierce scored his third touchdown of the game on a 49-yard gallop with just over five minutes left.

Temple piled up 335 rushing yards in the win. The Owls have recorded a school- record 31 rushing touchdowns this season.
