Buffalo, NY (Sports Network) - Matt Schilz threw for 236 yards and four touchdowns, leading Bowling Green to a 42-28 victory over Buffalo in the season-finale for both schools.
Eugene Cooper caught six passes for 90 yards and two touchdowns for the Falcons (5-7, 3-5 MAC), who snapped a three-game losing streak. Kamar Jorden added three catches for 74 yards with two scores in the victory.
Branden Oliver ran for 127 yards and a touchdown for Buffalo (3-9, 2-6), which lost five of its last six games. Chazz Anderson also scored on the ground and threw for 157 yards with an interception in defeat.
Bowling Green carried a 21-20 lead to the second half and scored 21 points in the third quarter to break it open.
John Pettigrew scored on a two-yard run with just over six minutes left in the third and Jamel Martin added a one-yard TD run to make it 35-20. After Buffalo went three-and-out, Schilz hit Jorden with a 64-yard scoring strike in the final minute of the period.
Anderson scored on a seven-yard run with just over a minute to play in the fourth quarter and hit Fred Lee with a two-point conversion pass to account for the final margin.
Buffalo struck first on a 31-yard field goal by Patrick Clarke early in the first quarter and added a 42-yard interception return for a score by Steven Means. Schilz found Jorden with a six-yard TD pass to put Bowling Green on the board a few minutes later. The score came one play after Anderson was picked off by BooBoo Gates.
After Schilz was intercepted in the final minute of the first period, Oliver's six-yard touchdown run just over a minute into the second extended Buffalo's lead to 17-7. Cooper caught a 28-yard scoring pass from Schilz soon after to make it a three-point game and Clarke connected from 27 yards away with just under four minutes left in the half to make it 20-14, but Cooper hauled in a 19-yard pass from Schilz in the final minute to send the Falcons to the break with a 21-20 edge.
