Final Score: Tennessee 7 - Kentucky 10
Lexington, KY (Sports Network) - A six-yard touchdown run by CoShik Williams early in the fourth quarter proved to be the difference as the Kentucky Wildcats slipped by the Tennessee Volunteers, 10-7, in SEC action at Commonwealth Stadium.
Williams finished the day with 68 yards on 21 carries for the Wildcats (5-7, 2-6 SEC) as they finally snapped a 26-game losing streak in the series against the Volunteers (5-7, 1-7). Quarterback Matt Roark accounted for a game-high 124 yards on 24 carries to make up for the fact that he converted just 4-of-6 passes for a mere 15 yards.
Tennessee was paced by Tyler Bray who hit on 15-of-38 passes for 215 yards and a score, but he was sacked twice and tossed a pair of interceptions as the team lost for the second time in the last three outings.
A slow offensive game on both sides, the only scoring of the first half took place at the 4:46 mark of the opening quarter when Kentucky kicker Craig McIntosh knocked through a 24-yard field goal to put the hosts on the board.
Following a scoreless third quarter, Williams capped an eight-play, 77-yard drive for the Wildcats when he landed in the end zone to give Kentucky a 10-0 advantage.
On the ensuing drive, Tennessee easily moved the ball 79 yards in just three plays, with Bray hooking up with Rajion Neal on a 53-yard TD pass play to cut the deficit to just three points, but that's as close as the visitors would get.
Neal finished the afternoon with four catches for 125 yards.
The Volunteers managed to produce just 276 yards of total offense, but that was still more than the Wildcats who generated just 217 yards while controlling the action for close to 36 minutes.
Tennessee's 26-game win streak against the Wildcats heading into the meeting was the second-longest win streak between Division I programs.
