Honolulu, HI (Sports Network) - Freshman quarterback David Graves passed for 260 yards and two touchdowns, while scoring once on the ground, leading the Hawaii Warriors to a 35-23 victory over Tulane in non-conference action at Aloha Stadium.
The Warriors (6-6) kept their bowl hopes alive with the win and must beat BYU in the regular-season finale next week to earn a trip to the Hawaii Bowl.
In his first career start, Graves completed 21-of-38 pass attempts. Joey Iosefa led the ground game with 53 yards and two TDs, while Graves added 57 yards and another score. Trevor Davis caught seven ball, for 81 yards and both TDs for Hawaii, which managed 482 yards of offense in the game.
Tulane (2-11) finished with just 287 yards of total offense. Robert Kelly led the Tulane ground game with 92 yards rushing, while Orleans Darkwa added 71 yards and two TDs. Quarterback Ryan Griffin struggled under center, completing 12-of-28 passes, for just 102 yards and one interception.
Hawaii got on the scoreboard early, taking the opening drive 69 yards in six plays, capped off by a 17-yard TD pass from Graves to Trevor Davis.
Tulane tied things up at the 3:42 mark of the first quarter with an 11-yard run by A Williams.
Just over a minute later, Graves scored on a 15-yard run to put the Warriors up 14-7.
Darkwa's first touchdown run, a one-yarder at the 11:37 mark of the second quarter tied things up at 14-14.
Hawaii went back on top just over four minutes later with a one-yard TD run by Iosefa and took the 21-14 lead into halftime.
The Warriors extended the lead to 28-14 early in the third quarter with another TD pass from Graves to Davis, this one from 12 yards out.
Tulane closed the scoring in the third quarter with a safety with under a minute to play to make it 28-16 heading into the final stanza. The Green Wave then closed the gap to 28-23 early in the fourth quarter thanks to a two-yard TD run by Darkwa.
Iosefa capped off a 10-play, 71 yards drive midway through the fourth quarter with a one-yard TD run to provide the final score, giving the Warriors the 35-23 victory at home.
