NFL Schaub demonstrates toughness after going down hard

While Matt Schaub left after the first play of the Texans game on Sunday with a separated left shoulder, nobody expected him to come back.

This was same shoulder that required surgery in the 2007. Not only did Schaub return and replace Rex Grossman, he brought the Texans from a 17-0 deficit in the 2nd quarter to a 23-18 loss that they had several chances to beat Jacksonville and avoid a 4 game losing streak.

Schaub said, "Same injury, same arm. Dislocated at the same spot, I do not think it is quite severe as the one that happened 2 years ago. I came in, and had a few X-rays, and they reset it so I went back out to play."

Schaub finished 19-27 for 207 yards, with one interception and one touchdown. He seemed to be in excruciating pain when he came down on his shoulder after being sacked by defensive end Derrick Harvey. The pain was worse when Dr. Walter Lowe popped the shoulder back in place.

Pain remains

Schaub's shoulder hurt for the remainder of the game; but he dealt with it.
He said, "You are in the game, full of adrenaline, and they put a harness to keep it in place."
As Schaub was in the dressing room, the Jaguars scored 17 consecutive points.

"I was constantly asking them, What is going on in the game?" Schaub said, "I was getting frustrated with the X-rays; let's hurry up. I am thinking we are at the 2 minute warning, but the doctors, the staff and trainers, they are like, just hold on, let us confirm."

Show of strength

Schaub never thought about not returning to the game.

He said, "Absolutely not. They were providing me will all these scenarios, and I was like, %u2018Who cares?' Just put the brace on, and lets go."

Schaub came back to the sideline, made a few throws, and took some snaps. He spent a minute or two on the bicycle to warm up. He said, "I was capable of throwing. This was my non throwing arm. I wasn't about to be diving but I did dive on that one scramble, and was wondering when I was about to go down, %u2018What are you doing?"

Today Schaub will undergo an MRI. He does not expect the injury to cost him any playing time.
