There was the good news and bad news involving the injured Vince Young on Sunday's 47-7 victory over the St. Louis Rams.
The good news was a 44 yard scramble during the 2nd quarter which erased some concerns regarding the quarterback's knee, which forced him to sit out Thursday and Friday's practice.
The bad news was that Young came up lame with a right hamstring injury at the end of the run and didn't return to the game. Young was taken to the locker room, but returned to watch the 2nd half from the sideline as backup Kerry Collins directed the offense for the rest of the game.
Young said, "I actually feel that I focused too much on my knee this week. A lot of times, I get two miles or one mile in and focus on my hamstring too. But I didn't get the chance to do that, as I was worried about my knee. The good thing is that its not hurting that much." With the game going in their favor, Young did the smart thing and stayed off his hamstring.
Young added, "I only pinched my hamstring a little bit, so I got off of it and told coach, 'I am going to sit out'. I didn't want to make the injury even worse." Young finished the day 6-8 for 132 yards and a TD. When asked if he will be able to play in this week's pivotal game against the Miami Dolphins next Sunday, Young responded.
"We will see. I don't want to speak too fast right now. I just want to go in and rehab this and be careful with it so I can come back strong." Head Coach, Jeff Fisher, didn't seem too anxious regarding the injury. Fisher said, "He has a mild pulled hamstring at this time. We will see how he is throughout the week. Since I kept him on the bike, and was capable of handing off, that gives you an idea of his condition."
For Collins, he was relieved of his starting duties 6 weeks ago, and was pleased to be able to contribute. He pointed out that getting first team reps late in the week while Young was out with the knee injury, was very helpful.
Collins said, "Obviously, to get the reps during the week, made me recognize what we were doing this week. I had a full day on Friday and a little bit on Thursday." Collins finished 11-19 for 154 yards and a touchdown. "To be able to get a few reps late in the week definitely helped today."
Collins also said that he will be ready to go if needed vs. Miami.
Collins added, "We will just see where Vince is after tomorrow or on Tuesday, and see how he feels. Whatever I have to do this week, I will do it. Optimistically, he will be back and we will get him back out there, but if he is not ready to go, I will look forward to getting ready this week and playing on Sunday."
