Today, investigators said that they are planning to talk to Steelers quarterback
Ben Roethlisberger, regarding sexual assault accusations filed against him by a young woman.
Woodrow Blue, the Milledgeville Police Chief said at a press conference in the afternoon that a lawyer was hired by Mr. Roethlisberger and has contacted the police and is cooperating. He said that the quarterback and the other witnesses to alleged occurrence will be interviewed during the next 2 to 3 days. The investigators will not say where the interviews will take place.
After the press conference, one of Ben Roethlisberger's attorneys, Ed Garland, said, "Facts confirm that there was no criminal activity. No sexual assault occurred. The truth about the events will cause this examination to finish without any criminal charge."
He would not get into details on his claims when the non-sexual assault happened.
Today, police would not provide information about what the 20 year old female informed them about what happened. Tom Davis, the Special Agent of the Georgia Bureau of Examination, said that the establishment will review the videos of Mr. Roethlisberger from the Milledgeville nightclubs that he visited late Thursday night and early Friday. The female who made the complaint is a student at the University of Georgia and said that Mr. Roethlisberger battered her early Friday at one of the clubs.
Agent Davis said that the woman has a lawyer but he will not provide his name.
He declined to grant more details of the incident or respond to a question that a reporter asked regarding whether the woman was credible.
The local district lawyer issued a statement from the police press conference. The statement was from Frederic D. Bright, the district lawyer for Ocmulgee Judicial Circuit saying, "Inquiry is ongoing. It would be premature to formulate any announcement at this time. When specifics are in, and a conclusion is made, we will let you know."
Greg Aiello, the NFL spokesperson, said that the league does not have any comment on the case but is following the process.
Art Rooney II, Steelers President, issued the following statement:
"All us Steelers people are worried about the recent incident connecting Ben Roethlisberger in Georgia. We can't comment on any specifics until the investigation of law enforcement is concluded. Definitely, we will continue to closely monitor the situation."
