Texans re-sign WR Davis

Fri 29th, February 2008

Houston, TX (Sports Network) - The Houston Texans officially announced the re-signing of wide receiver/kick returner Andre Davis to a new long-term contract.

The team did not release details of the deal but the Houston Chronicle reported that Davis inked a four-year contract worth $16 million.

Davis caught 33 passes for a career-high 583 yards and three touchdowns last season but really excelled on special teams, ranking second in the NFL with a 30.3-yard average on kickoff returns with three touchdowns.

Originally a second round pick by Cleveland in 2002, Davis spent the first three years of his career with the Browns before moving to New England in 2005 and Buffalo in 2006. He has caught 137 passes for 2,198 yards and 17 touchdowns in 78 games during his six-year career.

Davis also tied the NFL record for the longest reception with a 99-yard touchdown on October 17, 2004 against Cincinnati when he played for the Browns.
