New Orleans, LA (Sports Network) - The New Orleans Saints signed linebacker Dan Morgan on Friday, almost a month after the player was released by division rival Carolina.
Morgan, 29, was let go by the Panthers on February 11, after an injury-riddled couple of years put an end to his seven-year tenure with the club. He played the first three games last season before missing the final 13 with an Achilles tendon injury. In 2006, Morgan played in just one game before suffering a concussion, and missed the rest of the season.
Morgan was Carolina's first-round draft choice in 2001 out of Miami, and started 59 games for the Panthers. Morgan made 109 tackles in the 2004 season, and his 452 tackles rank third in franchise history.
Morgan could play against his old club twice in the 2008 season, as both compete in the NFC South division.
The Saints also agreed to terms with tight end Billy Miller to keep the six- foot-three, 252-pounder in New Orleans. Miller has started nine of 26 games for the Saints since signing with the club in 2006 and totaled 41 catches for 457 yards.
A veteran of 99 career games, Miller has 155 career receptions for 1,669 yards and nine touchdowns.
