Bills waive TE Kevin Everett

Tue 13th, May 2008

Orchard Park, NY (Sports Network) - The Buffalo Bills have waived tight end Kevin Everett, who has made a remarkable recovery from a serious neck injury he suffered in the 2007 regular-season opener.

Everett was hurt on September 9 against Denver while trying to make a tackle during the second-half kickoff. He hit Domenik Hixon with his helmet and immediately fell face-first to the turf.

Following the hit, Everett did not have any movement below his shoulders, but regained some mobility in his arms and legs after undergoing a four-hour surgical procedure.

Before the operation, it was initially feared that Everett would never walk again. He was walking under his own power a short time later.

"The Buffalo Bills continue to be moved by Kevin Everett's heart-warming story of his recovery," the team said in a statement. "His progress from September 9 of last year through today is nothing short of a miracle and is a tremendous example of faith, family and hard work.

"Today we are faced with the difficult decision to place Kevin on the waived/failed physical list, making him eligible to apply for any benefits due him. We had numerous discussions with the league in dealing with this process to assist him in the best way possible.

"Kevin will always remain a Buffalo Bill in the same way that Jim Kelly, Thurman Thomas and so many others before him are held in the highest regard by our franchise."

The Bills also waived wide receiver Chris Denney.
