Cincinnati, OH (Sports Network) - Cincinnati Bengals starting quarterback Carson Palmer will likely miss another week because of a sore throwing elbow, after consultation with an elbow specialist.
Palmer stayed in New York following the Bengals' 26-14 loss to the Jets on Sunday and visited with Mets team physician and elbow specialist Dr. David Altchek. At his press conference on Monday, Cincinnati head coach Marvin Lewis said Altchek recommended a "further conservative approach."
"We'll talk with Carson and see what he feels, but this would put him out for this game and put Ryan (Fitzpatrick) as our starting quarterback as we get ready for the Steelers," Lewis said.
The Bengals host Pittsburgh this upcoming Sunday.
Lewis, though, did not commit to ruling Palmer out and said no option was closed off.
"Well, I think right now, until I talk with Carson in person and talk more with the medical people," Lewis said. "I'll just say there could be more of an update later, and we'll see."
Palmer has sat out a pair of games this season -- the Jets game and a September 28 contest against Cleveland -- though he did play on October 5 against Dallas.
For the season, the USC product has completed 75-of-129 passes for 731 yards, three touchdowns and four interceptions in four games.
