Kings top Mavs to snap five-game slide

Sacramento, CA (Sports Network) - Kevin Martin led a balanced scoring attack with 21 points, as Sacramento posted a 102-95 victory over Dallas at ARCO Arena.

Francisco Garcia had 17 points for the Kings, who snapped a five-game losing streak. John Salmons and Brad Miller added 13 points apiece and Jason Thompson poured in 12.

Jason Terry racked up a game-high 33 points for the Mavericks, who have lost two in a row. Dirk Nowitzki picked up 15 points and eight rebounds.

Sacramento opened the fourth quarter with a 9-2 burst and went up 86-80 after Garcia drilled a three with 8:44 to play.

Nowitzki hit a jumper for a four-point game, but a Martin free throw triggered a 10-3 run that gave the home club a 96-85 edge with 3:18 remaining. Salmons drained a trey, while Martin, Garcia and Spencer Hawes each sank a field goal in the burst.

Nowitzki finished off a three-point play with 1:32 left which brought the Mavs within 100-95, but both Miller and Martin hit 1-of-2 from the line to wrap up the victory.

The Kings led by as many as seven in the opening quarter, but a 9-2 run got the Mavs within two, and Dallas trailed just 29-27 going into the second quarter.

Dallas used a 14-7 run late in the second quarter for a 55-49 lead at the break.

The Mavericks came out in the third quarter in full charge, opening up a 66-53 edge with 9:36 to play in the period after a Terry jumper.

Thompson's slam finished 15-2 run and the Kings were behind only 68-63 with 6:11 remaining, but the Mavs regained a six-point bulge on a tip-in from Erick Dampier with under three minutes left, at 76-70. But the Kings answered with seven points, and they went up 77-76 after Martin hit a three. Jose Barea's deuce in the waning seconds gave Dallas a one-point edge going to the fourth.

Game Notes

Dallas had won eight of the last nine meetings...Hawes and Nowitzki each posted a game-best eight rebounds...The Kings connected on 50.6 percent (41- of-81) from the field, and the Mavericks hit just 45.3 percent (39-of-86) including only 3-of-20 from beyond the arc.
