Pittsburgh, PA (Sports Network) - The Pittsburgh Steelers have officially ruled out quarterback Ben Roethlisberger for Sunday's game against the Baltimore Ravens, meaning Dennis Dixon will get his first career start under center.
Roethlisberger reportedly suffered headaches this week and didn't take many practice reps on Friday. He had been listed as questionable on the injury report.
The two-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback was hurt last week against Kansas City but passed a series of tests on Monday, leading him to practice on both Wednesday and Thursday.
Dixon has thrown just one pass in an NFL regular-season game and was elevated to the starting role after backup Charlie Batch suffered a long-term wrist injury in last week's loss to Kansas City.
Pittsburgh added quarterback Tyler Palko to the active roster to serve as the backup to Dixon. Palko, a former University of Pittsburgh star, was signed to the practice squad just this week following the injuries to Roethlisberger and Batch.
Roethlisberger will be in uniform and serve as the emergency third quarterback.
