Rams tab rookie Bradford as Week 1 starter

St. Louis, MO (Sports Network) - The St. Louis Rams announced on Saturday that rookie and top overall pick Sam Bradford will be the team's starting quarterback in Week 1 against Arizona.

Bradford is one of three quarterbacks on the roster with A.J. Feeley and Thad Lewis, and the Oklahoma product will get the nod next Sunday. The 22-year-old, who signed a six-year contract with over $50 million in reported guarantees, will try to help the Rams improve off an NFL-worst 1-15 record in 2009.

"(Bradford has) pretty good control of what we were doing," head coach Steve Spagnuolo said of why Bradford earned the starting job. "The team kind of rallies around him. And again, I think we're very, very fortunate to have a guy like A.J. Feeley in this particular role as a backup quarterback."

In the preseason, Bradford was 21-of-28 passing for 257 yards and three touchdowns and no interceptions.
