Indianapolis, IN (Sports Network) - The Indianapolis Colts have continued the rebuilding of their coaching staff by bringing back Peyton Manning's first NFL quarterbacks coach.
Bruce Arians, who coached the Colts' quarterbacks from 1998-2000, was hired as offensive coordinator in a move that was widely reported but only confirmed on Tuesday.
Arians spent the past five seasons as offensive coordinator of the Pittsburgh Steelers, who had said two weeks ago that Arians was retiring. Arians also held the same job with the Cleveland Browns from 2001-03 and at the collegiate level with Mississippi State and Alabama.
He was quarterbacks coach for the Colts during Manning's first three seasons in the NFL and will lead the offense under new head coach Chuck Pagano.
Manning missed every game this past season with a neck injury, but has said he doesn't plan to retire. However, his future in Indianapolis is uncertain. The Colts have the No. 1 pick in the draft with former Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck considered the top prize.
The Colts also hired Harold Goodwin as offensive line coach Tuesday. He had been an offensive assistant under Arians in Pittsburgh. The Colts fired tight ends coach Ricky Thomas and assistant offensive line coach Ron Prince.
