'Humble' Reid returns to Eagles

Wed 8th, August 2012

Bethlehem, PA (Sports Network) - Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid returned to the team on Wednesday, just one day after the funeral for his son, and called himself a very humble man.

"I'm a very humble man standing before you," said Reid to start a media session on Wednesday, one day before the Eagles open the preseason with a home game against Pittsburgh. "I'm humble because of the outpouring (of support)."

Approximately 900 people, including NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, turned out Tuesday for the funeral service of Garrett Reid, who died Sunday morning at the age of 29. He was found dead in a dorm room at Lehigh University, site of the Eagles' training camp.

Reid wouldn't comment on the specifics surrounding Garrett's death, but did acknowledge the troubles his son had in the past with drug addiction.

"It's a sad situation, it's one my son's been battling for a number years," Reid remarked. "He got caught up in a bad situation that affects a lot of people. We understand that Garrett's at peace and in great hands. Whatever trials and tribulations he had here, he's in a better place."

Reid said coming back to the team so quickly was the right thing to do.

"I'm a football coach. That's what I do," Reid simply stated. "I know my son wouldn't want it any other way."

Reid drove from Philadelphia to Bethlehem on Wednesday morning and guided the Eagles in a walkthrough practice in preparation for Thursday's game.
