Final Score: Seattle 0 - Pittsburgh 24
Pittsburgh, PA (Sports Network) - Ben Roethlisberger and the Pittsburgh Steelers emphatically rebounded from a Week 1 loss by shutting out the Seattle Seahawks, 24-0.
Roethlisberger completed 22-of-30 passes for 298 yards and a touchdown and played mistake-free after accounting for five of the Steelers' seven turnovers in a 35-7 drubbing against the Ravens last Sunday.
"It's not going to take one performance to get that stench off us," Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said.
Mike Wallace caught eight passes for 126 yards and a score, while Rashard Mendenhall added 66 yards and another TD on the ground for Pittsburgh (1-1), which won its ninth straight home opener.
Tarvaris Jackson passed for just 159 yards on 20-of-29 attempts, as Seattle (0-2) recorded just eight first downs to Pittsburgh's 23.
The last time the Seahawks were shut out also came at Heinz Field, as they fell to the Steelers, 21-0, on October 7, 2007.
"We played a very good team that did the things they needed to do," said Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll, whose club lost to the 49ers last week.
Mendenhall was stuffed on 4th-and-goal from the one on the game's opening possession, but atoned for the missed opportunity by barreling into the end zone from the same spot with 3:28 remaining in the first quarter.
Isaac Redman made it 14-0 early in the second when he took a handoff up the middle and went in for a 20-yard TD, and Shaun Suisham added a 20-yard field goal less than two minutes before the half.
The Steelers essentially put the game away with a nine-play, 71-yard drive in the third. Hines Ward tip-toed the left sideline to haul in a key 15-yard pass on third down, and two plays later Roethlisberger connected with Wallace in the left corner of the end zone on a fade route.
