National Football League

The National Football League (NFL) is the largest professional American football league in the world. It is an unincorporated association controlled by its members. It was formed by eleven teams in 1920 as the American Professional Football Association (the league changed the name to American Professional Football League in 1921 and then settled on its current name in 1922). The league currently consists of thirty-two teams from American cities and regions, divided evenly into two conferences - the American Football Conference (AFC) and National Football Conference (NFC) - of four four-team divisions.

NFL Betting Odds

Football betting odds is different in that you can choose which games to wager on and which games to pass on. By only betting on games that have a positive expected return and passing on games that have negative expected return, the football betting enthusiast can turn the tables on the sportsbook and put himself in the position to always have the edge!

So, when football betting you should always be looking for a correlating cause and effect that is not considered by the bookmakers and the football betting public. When you find this you have a tremendous edge in beating the line!

Again this is not an online football betting method that I use solely in selecting winners, but it can always be a nice reassurance that a game you like is a good pick. My advice is to look at the components that make up the game not the line.

Jazz Casino and SportsbookThe final football betting odds method is called technical analysis. This football betting method studies the trends and patterns that develop within a season. Football brings the best examples of this. There are certain types of trends that we focus on. These trends are the ones that generally develop because of tough situations or psychological problems.

In my opinion technical analysis is the best football betting tool to use when handicapping a game. That is why I have put so much time into providing you with the situational trends I have found that can be used to win big bucks. Although I use this football betting method consistently every week, it is by no means the only measure I use.

Football Odds Rules

Pointspread & Over/Under Wagers

On a pointspread wager, the team wagered must win by the pointspread. On an over/under wager, the total points of the contest by both teams, overtime included, must fall over or under the side selected. Pointspread and Over/Under lines will be offered on all NFL, AFL and NCAA contests.

Halftime Wagers

Halftime wagering is simply a wager only on the score of the first, or second half of a contest. The line offered will be a pointspread, a moneyline, or a combination of the two.

Quarter Wagers

Wagering on quarters is simply a wager only on the score of the first, second, third or fourth quarter of a contest. These lines will be offered on marquee events. The line offered will be a pointspread, a moneyline, or a combination of the two.

Moneyline Wagers

Moneyline Wagering is simply wagering on the contest based on a given price rather than a pointspread. The team wagered on just has to win the game.

Point Buying

This is a method of allowing the bettor to improve the pointspread of a football contest by actually "buying points" for the team he/she wants to wager, side or total. Bettors can buy points in 1/2 point increments up to 3 points, depending on the contest. Each 1/2 point costs the bettor an additional 10% vigorish.

Sports Betting Strategy

How to win at sports betting online:
The challenge of sports betting is to collect and analyze information and then make a sound judgement on what to bet on, what type of bet to place and how much. To create an opportunity to be a winner, you need to take into account three main factors, analyze them and act on your findings accordingly. These are:

  • • The odds offer (Price)
  • • The value of the odds (overpriced or underpriced?)
  • • The type of bet (single, multiple, combination, etc.)

The odds offer has to be at least 2:1 to make it worthwhile. If necessary, choose a selection with a slightly higher risk to prop up the price.

The value of the odds must be such that the sportsbook's commission is to a minimum, if at all. Some lines get 'steamed' unnecessarily. When this happens, the 'favorite' price lengthens. Take advantage of those situations.

Three type of bets seem to stand out as a sensible combination to use because they are simple, not too difficult to win and have good winning potential: the Straight bet, the Doubles and the Future.

Sports betting is one area where skillful players can win out. But it is important to understand that the skillful players are not "beating the bookies" so much as beating unskillful sports bettors. This becomes most clear when you look at one of the most common ways to win at sportsbetting: bet against popular teams. Bookies aren't sentimental, but people are.

The ideal world for a bookie would be for X number of people betting Y dollars on a team to win, while X number of people bet Y dollars on the opposing team. The bookies then just take 10% of the money that changes hands, with zero risk. Teams like the San Francisco 49ers, Dallas Cowboys, and Green Bay Packers get a lot of emotional money bet on them by fans. So, games featuring these teams seldom show the "true odds". Instead bookmakers set the odds so that they can attract enough betting to the anti-popular side to counteract the "fan" money. There are many other sports betting tactics that can also be effective.
