LPGA Tour adds a Match Play event in May

Gladstone, NJ (Sports Network) - The LPGA Tour announced on Tuesday the addition of a new event, the Sybase Match Play Championship, to the 2010 schedule. The tournament will be contested from May 20-23.

Sybase has been a tour sponsor since 2001 for a different event, but adds its name to this new tournament which will be contested at Hamilton Farm Golf Club, which hosted of the 2005 and 2006 HSBC World Match Play Championship.

"Sybase is excited to extend our partnership with the LPGA by sponsoring the Sybase Match Play Championship," said John Chen, chairman, CEO and president, Sybase. "We are committed to providing outstanding opportunities for world- class golf as well as valuable charity endeavors."

This marks the return of Match Play to the LPGA Tour since the former HSBC World Match Play Championship was last played in 2007.

The field for the new event will be taken from the top 48 players on the 2009 money list, four from the 2010 money list after the previous week's Bell Micro LPGA Classic, two sponsor exemptions and the low 10 scores from the Bell Micro LPGA Classic for those not already qualified.
