Enloe tops Tidland for Fort Smith title

Sun 21st, June 2009

Fort Smith, AR (Sports Network) - Jason Enloe parred the first playoff hole Sunday to defeat Chris Tidland and win the Fort Smith Classic.

Enloe rallied with a five-under 65 to finish at 15-under-par 265. Tidland, the third-round leader, posted a two-under 68 to force the playoff. This was the fourth playoff in tournament history and seventh in 13 Nationwide Tour events this season.

"I played awesome today. I played great tee to green, I putted well and I hit a few good chips that kept me going," said Enloe, who earned $99,000 for the win. "It feels pretty good when you need to play well and you do. I'm surprised I won. I hadn't been in contention in a while. I hadn't gotten any really low scores out of my rounds this year, but I've been telling people I was really close to playing well."

On the playoff hole, No. 18, Tidland three-putted from 60 feet out on the right fringe. Enloe left himself 25 feet and he calmly two-putted for par and his second Nationwide Tour win.

Wil Collins (64), Brian Smock (66), Gavin Coles (67) and Justin Bolli (67) shared third place at 14-under-par 266. Josh Broadaway ended alone in seventh at minus-13 after closing with a 64 at Hardscrabble Country Club.

With a large group of players vying for the lead, Enloe and Tidland broke through the crowd, but missed chances to win the title in regulation.

After a birdie on the first, Enloe poured in three straight birdie chances from the seventh to make the turn in 14-under. He dropped a shot on the 10th, but rebounded with a birdie on No. 11.

Enloe parred his next three, then birdied the par-three 15th to get to 15- under. He parred his final three holes to end there.

Tidland, who was also seeking his second Nationwide Tour win, had two birdies and two bogeys on the front nine to make the turn in 13-under. He posted a birdie on the par-five 11th, then birdied 14 to join Enloe in the lead.

"You can play a little more aggressively when you're behind," said Tidland, who fell on the front nine. "It's easier to come back than to hold on, especially when there are that many guys."

However, Tidland also closed with a par run. He parred his last four holes to force the playoff.

"It was exciting," Tidland said. "I watched the leaderboard most of the day. I know there was a lot of movement and I knew I was close. It made for an exciting tournament."
