Bridgeport, WV (Sports Network) - David Peoples fired a seven-under 65 Friday to grab a two-stroke lead after two rounds of the Nationwide Tour Players Cup.
Peoples, a two-time winner on the PGA Tour, completed 36 holes at 10-under-par 134.
Craig Barlow also posted a 65 to move into a share of second at minus-eight. He stands alongside Jeff Gove (67) and Ryan Armour (66), Tom Gillis is alone in fifth place at seven-under-par 137 after shooting 66 Friday.
Peoples started on the back nine and carded his first birdie on the par-four 11th. He came right back with birdies on 12 and 13 to get to minus-six.
The 49-year-old birdied the par-five 17th, but gave that stroke back as he bogeyed the par-four first at Pete Dye Golf Club.
Peoples, who turns 50 in January, bounced back from that bogey with a flurry of birdies. He birdied the second and followed with three more birdies in a row from the fourth to jump to 11-under. Peoples parred the final four holes to lead by two.
"It was a great day putting," said Peoples. "I made a lot of good saves in between the birdies. That's what I've struggled with in the past. It was the thing that was holding me back. Before, when I was putting bad, I felt like I was the worst one out there."
Barlow carded eight birdies and a single bogey on the ninth to shoot 65.
Gove stumbled to a double-bogey and a bogey to go with eight birdies to move into a share of second.
"I made a mess of that hole," Gove said of the par-four ninth, where he made his double-bogey. "I just reminded myself that I'm playing good and I tried to get back to that."
Armour also had eight birdies to go with a pair of bogeys in his second round.
Chris Baryla carded a six-under 66 to move into a tie for sixth at six-under- par 138. He was joined there by Ron Whittaker (71), John Kimbell (69), Fabian Gomez (69), Bob May (69) and Brian Stuard (71).
First-round leader Bradley Iles tumbled into a share of 25th place at minus- three after stumbling to a four-over 76. He carded two birdies, an eagle, a double-bogey and six bogeys.
The cut line fell at even-par 144 with 71 players moving on to the weekend.
