Gomez moves six ahead in Mexico

Solidaridad, Mexico (Sports Network) - Rafael Gomez fired an eight-under 64 on Saturday to move six shots clear of the field after three rounds of the Iberostar Riviera Maya Open.

Gomez completed 54 holes at 16-under-par 200. His total of 200 broke the old tournament record of 201. Derek Gillespie set the old mark in 2007.

Antonio Maldonado used a seven-under 65 to move into second place at minus-10. Darren Griff is alone in third at eight-under-par 208 after shooting 67 in the third round.

Scott Gibson (69) and David Jackson (68) are tied for fourth at minus-six.

Gomez, who won the Sport Frances Open in Chile last November, tripped to a bogey on the first, but that was his last dropped shot of the day. He came right back with a birdie on the second.

The 41-year-old Argentine moved to 10-under with birdies on the fifth and seventh at Iberostar Playa Paraiso Golf Club.

Gomez birdied five of six holes from the ninth to move well clear of the field. He posted his final birdie on the 16th, then parred his last three holes to lead by six after three rounds.

Lindsay Renolds is alone in sixth at five-under-par 211 after posting a three- under 69. John Douma (68), Mauricio Molina (74), Garrett Frank (71) and Liam Kendregan (73) share seventh at minus-four.
