Nayarit, Mexico (Sports Network) - Eduardo Herrera carded a five-under 67 Friday to grab a one-stroke lead after 36 holes of the Riviera Nayarit Classic.
Herrera completed two rounds at nine-under-par 135 and has 14 players within two strokes of his lead.
Oscar Fraustro, who shared the first-round lead with Oscar Serna, posted a one-under 71 and was joined in second place at minus-eight by Michael Mezei (68), Kent Eger (69), James Hahn (64), Efren Serna, Jr. (70), Jae Woo Im (67), Matt Marshall (68) and Jake Yount (69).
Herrera posted a birdie on the fourth, then carded three in a row from the seventh to make the turn at minus-eight. He stumbled to a bogey on the 10th, before parring the next three holes.
At the 14th, Herrera made the first of two straight birdies to get to nine- under. He dropped a shot on the 16th, but birdied the last for the second- round lead on the Pacifico Course at Punta Mita Club de Golf.
Oscar Serna managed an even-par 72 and slid into a tie for 10th at seven- under-par 137. He was joined there by Darren Griff (66), Craig Matthew (68), George Bradford (69), Paulo Pinto (71) and Jason D'Amore (67).
The cut line fell at one-under-par 143 with 60 players advancing to the weekend.
