Lynn, Larrazabal lead Open de France

Paris, France (Sports Network) - David Lynn shot a six-under 65 and Pablo Larrazabal had a one-under 70 on Friday to share the lead after the second round of the Open de France.

The duo stood at seven-under-par 135 for a two-shot lead over five players. Larrazabal, who held the first-round lead by himself, was just happy to beat the course on a windy day at Le Golf National.

"At the end of the round I was a little nervous when I looked at the leaderboard and I was four shots clear, but I knew then that if I made one or two bogeys then it was still a good round and that I would have a chance of being in the last or second last group on Saturday," Larrazabal said.

The leaderboard bunched up behind the co-leaders.

European Ryder Cup stalwarts Colin Montgomerie and Lee Westwood both carded rounds of three-under 68 to lead the group of five players tied at five-under 137. Ignacio Garrido (69), Peter Lawrie (71) and 2007 U.S. Open champion Angel Cabrera (70) joined them in a share of third place.

Shiv Kapur (63), Paul Broadhurst (69), Soren Hansen (69) and defending champion Graeme Storm (70) were another stroke further back at four-under 138.

Nine more players were within five shots of the co-leaders.

Larrazabal teed off in the first group off No. 1 on Friday after sleeping on the lead -- as well as the knowledge that Spain's soccer team had advanced to the final of the Euro 2008 tournament.

"I started off a little tired because I was watching the match, and I was a little nervous so I made a bogey on the first," said the 25-year-old Spaniard.

But he settled down with back-to-back birdies at the third and fourth holes before making another bogey at the eighth. He then carded three birdies in a four-hole stretch ending at the 13th, getting as low as nine-under par.

Larrazabal then bogeyed consecutive holes at the 16th and 17th. But despite those late setbacks, he remained upbeat.

"One-under was a great round," said Larrazabal. "To beat the course with that wind and the way that some of the pin positions were was still a great round."

Lynn joined Larrazabal in the lead late in the day after playing in the second-to-last group off the first tee. The 2004 KLM Open champion mixed three birdies with one bogey on the front nine, then turned it on.

He birdied four holes on the back nine, including the 16th and 18th, for his share of the lead.

Robert-Jan Derksen aced the 174-yard 16th on Friday, his second hole-in-one on the European Tour, but still missed the two-over cut line by four shots. He did, however, win a new BMW.

Darren Clarke, Bradley Dredge, Johan Edfors and Thomas Bjorn were among the other players who missed the cut.
